First qualified in 1992 after studying at Oxford Polytechnic he worked for large London practices and other conservation-based architects before first establishing his own studio on the Welsh border in 1994.

He subsequently moved his practice to Bath in 2008 and has since built a strong reputation for the considerate and creative adaptation of historic buildings in both London and the South West.  He has been responsible for several detailed conservation projects and received various local conservation and design awards, most recently nominated by the Georgian group in 2017.  Between 2012 and 2017 he was a Partner at the Bath office of Chris Dyson Architects and was responsible for a number of award winning projects including the Sunday Times British Homes awards 2016 and a highly commended nomination in the 2016 RIBA Manser Medal.  In 2021 he was included in the House and Garden Magazine list of the top 100 UK architects and interior designers.

Clients have included the National Trust, The Dioceses of Hereford, Litchfield, Salisbury, Bath and Wells, Museum groups, local community groups and various Local Authorities.  He has worked closely with grant funding organizations including Historic England, the National Lottery, English Partnerships, The RDC, ADWM and CADW.

 Harry Whittaker is an accredited Conservation Architect (AABC) and a member of the Ecclesiastical Architects and Surveyors Association (EASA).

Sarah studied at the University of Bath and worked at Farrells in Hong Kong, later to join the London office post Part II, working there for 12 years on a variety of projects including the Home Office throughout construction, the refurbishment and extension of Grade II* Great North Museum in Newcastle from HLF funding application through to completion, and various masterplans including Earls Court and Convoys Wharf.

She joined Chris Dyson Architects in the Bath office in 2014, upon returning to live in the South West. Alongside Bath’s Principal Partner Harry Whittaker, she helped to expand the CDA Bath office portfolio locally. Since the amicable separation from CDA and the formation of BCA, Sarah continues to enjoy the close working relationship with clients and other members of the consultant team to deliver projects from beginning through to completion.
